CLEAR QUARTZ

CLEAR QUARTZ is also known as Crystal Quartz or Rock Crystal. It is a hard, crystalline mineral composed of silica (a natural form of silicon dioxide).
The word 'quartz' is derived from the German word 'quarz', which had the same form in the first half of the 14th century and which came from the Polish dialect term 'kwardy' meaning 'hard'. The Ancient Greeks referred to quartz as 'κρύσταλλος' derived from the 'icy cold', because some philosophers apparently believed the mineral to be a form of supercooled ice.

HISTORY: Quartz is the most common material believed to be the mystical substance 'MABAN' among the Aboriginals of Australia and shamans; spiritual elders supposedly derive their powers from. It is found regularly in passage tomb cemeteries in Europe in a burial context in Ireland. Quartz was also used in prehistoric Ireland for stone tools due to its hardness.
