BLUE APATITE is a calcium phosphate mineral with a trigonal crystal system. Apatite is very common as an accessory mineral in igneous and metamorphic rocks, where it is the most common phosphate material. However, occurrences are usually as small grains which are often visible only in thin sections.

HISTORY: Named in 1786 by the German geologist Abraham Werner, from the Greek word ‘apatein’. Translucent gemstone quality Apatite is rare but it is found in a range of colours including, blue, green, yellow, violet, red, clear and a rutilated chatoyant form called cats.

HEALING: Apatite is a stone of manifestation. It is related to service and to humanitarian pursuits. It is believed to balance the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies, and the chakras, eliminating overactivity and stimulating underactivity. Psychologically, Apatite increases motivation. It draws off negativity about oneself and others. Physically, Apatite aids in the absorption of calcium, helping cartilage, bones and teeth; healing bones and encouraging the formation of new cells. It improves arthritis and joint problems.  Apatite can successfully help in suppressing hunger and raising the metabolic rate, encouraging healthy eating.
