HEMATITE

ORIGIN: Brasil, Britain, Italy, Switzerland and Canada.

HEMATITE is an iron oxide mineral characterised of the metallic radiance. The colour of this opaque stone ranges from black, silvery grey to reddish-brown. Hematite gets its name from the Greek word 'aima', which means 'blood'. When it is ground into a powder it provides red coloured powder used as a red pigment.

HISTORY: The oldest evidence of this practice was recently found in Africa where Middle Stone Age people living approx. 160,000 years ago ground red ochre to paint their bodies. Hematite was very popular during the Victorian era when it was used to make marcasite jewellery.

HEALING: Hematite is a versatile stone that can be used for healing, grounding, divination, meditation, stabilization, and protection. It utilises the magnetic qualities of our yin-yang energies to balance the meridians within the body and to provide a stable equilibrium between the ethereal nervous system and the physical nervous system. It focuses energy and emotions for balance between the body, mind and spirit. It is recommended to combine it with some other crystals, like Rose Quartz, Herkimer Diamond, or Rock Crystal.
