RED CORAL (SEA BAMBOO)

ORGIN: Mediterranean waters (near Algeria and Tunisia), Red Sea, Persian Gulf, Mauritius, Australia and Japan.  

CORAL is a rare, thus often unethically sourced and very expensive raw material, the collection of which is forbidden in many countries. The shape and colour of Sea Bamboo is reminiscent of Coral. It is a material that has been dyed and polished to obtain its glossy finish. 

Natural coral is an organic substance, formed by living organism. It forms from branching, antler-like structures created from coral polyps in tropical and subtropical ocean waters. Coralis prepared by a sea creature called 'Isis Nobiles'. Its primary constituent is calcium carbonate. When the coral polyps die, the hardened skeleton remains, and this material is what is used as a gemstone. Most coral is white, but nature can create coral in several other colours, including the popular orange to red forms. 

HISTORY: In the ancient times, coral was worn as an amulet to protect against the evil eye. In ancient Greece the origin of red coral is associated with the myth of Gordon who's' blood running into the sea has transformed seaweed into a red coral. Pueblo Indians used Coral to denote one of the basic life elements. Hopi and Zuni Indians believed that the “way of life” can be manifested with help of the four elements: Coral, Jet, Abalone, and Turquoise.

HEALING: Coral is believed to turn inactive persons into active ones. It helps build finances, increases determination, courage, physical strength, vitality, and leadership qualities, and helps one to finish the tasks he has begun.
